Job Description

Member of Technical Staff - Translational Medicine

Latch builds scientific benchmarks (benchmarks.bio) to assess AI in biology and medicine. Frontier AI labs and pharma use our benchmarks to determine if agents can handle the complex reasoning required in real biological work. Each benchmark is based on actual experimental and clinical tasks and created by experienced scientists.

Latch has about 95 people in San Francisco and is backed by Lux Capital, Coatue, Fifty Years, Haystack, Jeff Dean, Alec Nielsen, and George Church.

We're hiring a Member of Technical Staff to lead our Translational benchmark and shape how AI is evaluated in this area.

About the Role

You will be Latch's translational medicine expert, defining benchmarks and evaluating model answers based on the standards of physicians, investigators, and regulators.

What You’ll Do

  • Define benchmarks to evaluate if agents can draw valid scientific conclusions from translational and clinical data.

  • Convert drug programs and clinical-trial designs into tasks for AI agents; use failed trials with known causes as test cases.

  • Test advanced agents on your benchmarks and ensure scientific and technical accuracy in their results.

  • Make clinical decisions for Latch’s omics and therapeutics teams; final review before any clinical claims.

  • Build the clinical function by hiring and leading a team.

Requirements

  • MD with technical expertise in computational biology or bioinformatics.

  • Experience with patients, clinical trials, or high-stakes translational decisions.

  • Knowledge of FDA regulatory documents (e.g., INDs or clinical trial protocols).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical degree in bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, math, or related field.

  • Clear understanding of building AI benchmarks for translational medicine.

  • Comfortable with AI agents, computers, and solving technical problems independently.

  • Ability to propose valuable tasks and design graders to detect scientific errors.

  • Experience building or leading technical teams.
