Job Description
About Halter
At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.
We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

Own the injection moulding tools behind Halter's solar-powered cattle collars. You'll qualify tools built by our supplier partners and keep tens of thousands of parts consistent, from first trial to mass production.
The role
This role focuses on qualifying, signing off and sustaining those tools rather than designing them. You'll work with suppliers to make sure every tool is capable at volume, and help set how we do this as we scale.
What you'll do
Own tooling programs end to end for custom in-house designed components, from DFM input during development through T-Final trials and FAT/SAT to stable mass production.
Lead complex tool qualification, and set the bar for capability evidence (first article inspection, CP/CPK and mechanical testing) before parts reach the line.
Solve tooling issues that span multiple suppliers, and see corrective actions through to a lasting fix
Build our standards for tool maintenance, change control and long-term capability
Partner with Mechanical Design early on steel-safe decisions so parts are easier to tool and build at volume
Share your expertise and help raise the technical bar across the team
The technical environment
Process: plastic injection moulding, plus secondary operations such as painting, plating and ultrasonic welding
Quality and capability: CMM, first article inspection, SPC and CP/CPK
Change control: a structured engineering change process (ECR, ECN, ECO) from kickoff to production cut-in
Partners: external toolmakers and a contract manufacturer in Asia
What you'll bring
Deep experience with plastic injection moulding tools, including FAT/SAT and steel-safe design
Experience qualifying tools built by external toolmakers, for example as a tooling or supplier quality engineer at a product company or contract manufacturer
High-volume production experience, including keeping tools capable long after sign-off
Clear, collaborative communication with suppliers and internal teams, including working through disagreements with data
Ability to travel around 25% of the time, including trips to partners in Asia at short notice
Nice to have
Experience working with contract manufacturers in Asia
Hands-on experience with secondary operations
Mould flow simulation (e.g. Moldflow)
Experience mentoring other engineers
Don't meet every point above? If you have strong injection moulding tooling experience and most of what we've described, we'd still love to hear from you.
