Job Description

About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is looking for a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Integration to join our Vehicle Integration team, owning product architecture and layout from the earliest concept stages through production and balancing styling, cost, mass, manufacturability, performance, service, and reliability across the full vehicle program. In this role, you will design and package components to meet product and system-level requirements, lead integration reviews, and carry designs from concept through DFM review to production release.

What You'll Do

  • Design and package components to meet or exceed product and system-level targets for weight, cost, manufacturability, and performance.

  • Run integration reviews and arbitrate trade-offs so design decisions stay aligned with product attribute targets

  • Develop packaging master sections that support Class-A surfacing and overall integration feasibility

  • Lead virtual build reviews with manufacturing, driving alignment in assemblies strategy and reaching manufacturing signoff

  • Bring manufacturing assembly process knowledge into the architecture upfront, rather than flagging issues only after the fact

  • Support the development of bucks, physical prototypes, and pre-series production

  • Run tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T to confirm fit and function across complex, multi-part assemblies

  • Manage the top-level product CAD and BOM, enforce CAD hygiene and compatibility through the release process

What You'll Bring

  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • A track record of working across a vehicle program's full lifecycle, from concept-stage packaging through launch

  • Solid engineering fundamentals and judgment regarding the operation of complex, multi-domain systems and products.

  • Broad knowledge of fabrication techniques, ranging from metal fabrication to printed circuit board design

  • Excellent design, packaging and 3D modelling skills (CATIA experience is a plus)

  • Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving drive, with complete comfort navigating dynamic, evolving technical challenges

  • Experience navigating PLM platforms such as 3DEXPERIENCE and Teamcenter

  • A genuine enthusiasm for developing next-generation vehicles and autonomy enabled robots

  • 5+ years designing mechanical parts that made it into production, with real accountability for how they performed once built

  • Comfort owning GD&T and tolerance stack-up work on your own

The salary for this position ranges from $200,000 - $221,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

Perks & Benefits

  • Robust health coverage — excellent health, dental and vision insurance covered up to 100% by ALSO with FSA & HSA options

  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates

  • Rich fertility and family building benefits with Progyny

  • Flexible time off

  • 401(k) match
