Job Description

Position Summary

The Communications department operates as an internal agency within the museum, promoting exhibitions, collections, public programs, and other museum activities. Our team is responsible for creating content in a range of vehicles, and developing strategic communications campaigns both earned and paid, that capture the imagination of our audiences. We maintain the institutional brand, cultivate media and community relations, and create advertising, website, and social media content. We provide creative services including graphic design, print production, and more.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

· Assist with project management across departments.

· Update online calendar, posting events through social media channels, and external websites.

· Write, edit, or proofread press materials and other copy.

· Create and distribute digital newsletters and e-blasts.

· Maintain external outreach lists.

· Directly handle all administrative work for the department including invoice processing, budget tracking, and credit card reconciliation.

· Schedule meetings for the department, and draft agendas.

· Coordinate production of Annual Report.

· Assist with social media creation, sharing approved content and monitoring tagged content.

· Support the development of museum communications and marketing with an eye for design.

· Assist with film and photography shoots.

· Organize and maintain departmental collateral, press clippings, and other materials, digital and physical.

· Support the Director of Marketing and Communications.

· Manage the marketing department production schedule including:

             o Quarterly Museum communications needs (including award-winning calendar)

             o Advertising campaigns

             o Exhibition collateral (postcards, brochures, posters, banners)

             o Event invitations and other materials upon request

· Other duties and tasks as assigned

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.

· 3 years' experience in a similar role required.

· Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position

Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of, and interest in, art and museums.

· Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

· Exceptional verbal command of the English language.

· Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

· Ability to respond quickly to unexpected challenges and shifting priorities.

· Ability to juggle competing priorities, manage multiple projects and see them through to completion.

· Knowledge of, and interest in, art and museums.

· Ability to provide clear guidance and direction for staff members.

· Responds to staff inquiries in a timely manner.

· Ability to work well collaboratively and independently.

· Aptitude in MS Office programs including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

· Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva and similar.

· Proficiency using a Content Management System (e.g. WordPress); email marketing services (e.g. Constant Contact).
