Job Description

The Paley Center for Media, the world’s leading nonprofit institution dedicated to preserving and engaging the public in the exploration of the powerful culture shaping influence of media, is hiring a Director, Marketing & Partnerships.  In addition to operating and maintaining the Paley Archive, the Paley leads the prestigious Paley Media Council and operates The Paley Museum in Midtown Manhattan, offering venerated programming across the fields of media, tech, gaming, sports, and entertainment. As Paley marks its 50th year in operation, this strategic, high-impact leadership position will play an important, collaborative role in building on the organization’s remarkable legacy to forge its exciting next chapter.

The Director will help expand the Paley Center's impact and reputation by conceiving, organizing, deploying, and evaluating multiple simultaneously running campaigns that cultivate partnerships and public engagement, build visitor traffic, grow and engage membership communities, and elevate brand awareness and affinity. This role is key to advancing the Paley Center's mission by developing mutually beneficial relationships with external organizations, driving ambitious visitor growth, and leading strategic marketing campaigns from conception to execution through a multi-channel suite of traditional and cutting-edge tactics.

The Director is an industrious, agile, and high energy strategic partner and right hand to the VP, Marketing & Communications and collaborates with all teams in identifying new opportunities, executing special projects, evaluating tactical approaches for return on investment, and aligning marketing and partnership efforts with organizational goals.

Responsibilities 

The Director is responsible for growing the Paley brand through strategic campaigns and partnerships that propel the following institutional goals:

  • Driving high volume visitor traffic to the flagship Paley Museum in NYC
  • Maximizing tickets sales and registrations to ensure sold-out events in NY and LA
  • Significantly growing memberships across all levels including public and industry
  • Driving cross-functional collaboration to deliver on integrated campaign initiatives that meet business objectives
  • Increasing viewership and engagement with Paley’s digital content
  • Expanding and retaining Paley’s marketing partners and new audiences to drive its mission
  • Advancing brand visibility, recognition, reputation, and affinity

Audience Development & Team Leadership

  • Design and implement audience development strategies to drive attendance, ticket sales, and membership
  • Identify and explore new audience segments through data analysis, community outreach, and collaborative promotions
  • Lead strategic outreach for major exhibitions, tentpole events, and invitation-only programs
  • Conduct market and audience research and integrate insights into campaign planning
  • Supervise and support the Audience Development Manager to achieve growth and visitation goals across all programs
  • Use internal data and external research to design audience journeys, profiles, and segmentation to deepen engagement and expand visitation

Creative Direction & Campaign Management

  • Own development and execution of successful creative marketing campaigns, developing budgets and workflows, collaborating with internal teams, and assigning and project managing the work of colleagues, agencies, and contractors for developing compelling sales collateral
  • Conceive innovative ad campaigns and identify key outlets and partners to reach key audiences and demographics
  • Develop campaign briefs, messaging frameworks, A/B testing models, and creative direction aligned with brand voice and strategic goals
  • Direct the Creative Services team as well as contractors and vendors in the creation and production of print, digital, and video marketing materials, advertising assets, and sales collateral
  • Monitor campaign performance in collaboration with the Director of Digital Marketing & Growth Analytics, applying insights to adjust the sails in real time or optimize future efforts

Partnership Development & External Relations

  • Establish the Paley as a go-to destination and premium co-brand opportunity by proactively identifying and cultivating high-value partnerships with NYC-based organizations with aligned audiences through high-touch engagement
  • Serve as lead account manager for media and promotional partners to ensure fulfillment of all obligations, from
  • ad specs to post-run reports and negotiate/manage partnership terms, deliverables, benefits, and timelines with support from legal and finance
  • Represent the Paley Center as a brand ambassador at events and in stakeholder meetings

Additionally

  • Partner internally to leverage the CRM for segmented outreach and partnership engagement
  • Engage as a Paley Ambassador for social media initiatives by actively sharing Paley’s social media posts and energizing employees to do the same to amplify reach and foster community engagement
  • Participate in other projects as assigned by Paley executive team

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing, partnership development, and brand strategy within ticketed media, entertainment, or cultural institutions
  • Proven ability to bring innovative and creative approaches to the shifting landscape of marketing to yield results,  strategically growing external partnerships and audience engagement and conversions
  • Demonstrated success leading campaign vision and strategy to own and lead creative campaigns, direct internal  and external creative teams, and successfully impact organizational goals
  • Strong understanding of digital and experiential marketing trends and data-informed analysis
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with C-suite of corporate partners, a prominent outside Board, and peer executives
  • Highly collaborative, strong consensus builder able to influence and drive the business forward
  • Nights, weekends, and early morning/evening hours required to support live events and museum programming, with occasional travel
  • Preference to work in-person in a cohesive, collaborative, high-energy, in-office environment
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish a plus

Total Compensation Range: $100,000 - $160,000
