Job Description

TODAY Digital is looking for an Editorial Assistant to support Shop TODAY’s editorial and commerce initiatives, specifically assisting in the digital production of Shop TODAY's commerce coverage across daily programming. This role serves as a key liaison between the editorial and production teams, creating commerce elements tied to digital content and on-air segments, identifying timely shopping trends, maintaining editorial production tools and ensuring seamless coordination with the editorial team.

The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented individual with strong commerce instincts who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom environment. This position requires excellent editorial judgment, strong CMS knowledge, an understanding of SEO and audience trends, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute digital production requests from the editorial team and create all backend elements for digital commerce articles.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in editorial production and work with the product team to escalate and resolve them. 
  • Support implementation of new production features within CMS and work with the editorial operations manager to improve the production process. 
  • Help facilitate curation of content on reader-facing Commerce fronts on TODAY.com.
  • Refresh/update high-priority articles and evergreen commerce content as assigned.
  • Pitch products for article inclusion as needed, using analytics and historical brand data to ensure pitches are relevant and expected top performers
  • Help maintain and update the various editorial calendars & trackers for the team, ensuring alignment across broadcast programming and editorial coverage.
  • Help with digital and seasonal story coverage as needed.
  • Support editorial coverage for major shopping events, including Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
  • Monitor story performance using analytics platforms and use insights to improve content, headlines, product curation and overall strategy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maximize reach and conversions

  • 1-2 years of related experience in lifestyle, commerce or service journalism
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to write clean, engaging and conversion-minded copy
  • Experience working efficiently and accurately in a deadline-driven environment, managing multiple projects
  • Interest in shopping and lifestyle trends 
  • Experience writing and building in a CMS strongly preferred
  • Experience utilizing SEO best practices and tools
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and knowledge of AP style
  • Sharp editorial judgement and a clear understanding of the Shop TODAY voice and audience
  • E-commerce editorial experience preferred; familiarity with affiliate marketing platforms a plus
